As we approach a critical juncture in Tennessee’s political journey, I am reaching out to seek your support for my campaign. I am not your typical establishment Republican candidate. Unlike the establishment’s pick, I stand firm in my convictions, unswayed by the political winds. However, my campaign faces a significant challenge. The Sevier County GOP, in an unprecedented move, is backing the establishment candidate to the hilt, with his fellow county commissioners supporting him at or near the maximum allowable contribution of $1,800 for the primary election. This orchestrated effort is aimed at ensuring their hand-picked successor to the retiring establishment Republican, Dale Carr, wins – even if it means bending the rules. They are determined to maintain the status quo, but we know that Tennessee deserves better. Every contribution, no matter the size, can make a profound difference in this tightly contested race. Whether it’s $5, $50, or the maximum of $1,800, your donation will help me stand up against the establishment machine that is determined to keep true constitutional conservatives out of the state legislature. We need a representative who will not just “go along to get along” but will fight tirelessly for our rights and freedoms.

Of course that title may have you thinking that I may be posting about a Creator in general, or my faith in particular. Well, usually whenever I do speak about Intelligent Design that would be the case. This post is about unintelligent design. More specifically about problems with infrastructure in and around Sevier County.
Our county, and the communities all across it, have experienced near exponential growth for a long period of time now. Just the amount that I have witnessed up and down Boyds Creek since my bride and I settled there in 2017 after I retired from the U.S. Navy has been incredible. All of the residents have been, mostly silent, witnesses to this growth. Now growth is not a bad thing for a community, or a county, to experience. How the growth happens though can be problematic though. Not just for the large number of tourists that visit our little slice of heaven here in the Smoky Mountains either. It is starting to be problematic for those who call Sevier County home.
The traffic congestion is getting to be near intolerable. Denise and I are at the point now where we try and consolidate all our trips into Sevierville or Pigeon Forge into a single day, and very early in the day as well. If we do not have any pressing need, the only time we venture down Winnfield Dunn is when we head to our church for worship services. There are many things we will forgo because of the traffic, but corporate worship with our #PathwaysChurch will not be one of them.
While we are experiencing unbelievable growth, it is growth without intelligent design. For years now the County Commission has signed off on rezoning parcels of land so that developers can come in and build housing communities with hundreds of houses on small plots of land. Why? Think property taxes folks. While that is not a bad thing in and of itself, the consideration for water, traffic, and other infrastructure needed to accommodate that growth was more likely than not given much less consideration than the tax revenue that will be generated by half million dollar, 1,500 sq/ft homes built on 1/5 acre plots.
I encourage each of you to attend county commission meetings where they are considering the rezoning of land for housing developments. Ask the hard questions about who these developments benefit – the people or the government?
Also, keep this in mind come election tome. Take the time to really investigate the candidates running to represent districts in the county and to represent the county at the state level. I am quite sure you all know where I stand on this, and many other issues.
